Background and Credentials

Dr. Tyson's career in medicine started with a degree in nursing from Duke University which taught her to listen to the patient's perspective, anticipate the patient's needs and communicate the strategies necessary to achieve wellness.

She received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and returned to Duke to complete her psychiatric training.

Dr. Tyson has been in practice for over 30 years, with over 20 years serving central Florida.

an integrated perspective on mental health

When seeking to restore or improve function that has been impaired by a psychiatric condition, treatment must include the consideration of physical as well as mental health. Good mental health cannot be achieved without satisfying basic emotional needs nor those of sleep, nutrition, and exercise. Unfortunately people sometimes do not know where to look to get those needs met, or they ignore some needs altogether. Although Dr. Tyson's primary medical strategy is medication, her expectation is that patients will apply themselves to working with her to identify and eventually address all components of their health.
